ENERGY
Trigeneration at the heart of
efficiency
The malthouse will incorporate a trigeneration
system that provides electricity , heat and
cooling from a single fuel source . This
integrated approach is expected to
signif icantly reduce energy use , with
emissions projected to be up to 50 %
below the industry average .
WATER
Built for a water - stressed region
High - eff iciency steeping , condensate
recovery and closed - loop water systems will
sharply reduce freshwater demand .
SOCIAL
Supporting emerging farmers
South Africa has one of the
highest unemployment rates
in the world . By providing
emerging farmers with skills
and access to seed and secure
markets , this project will create
employment and drive .
LAYING THE GROUNDWORK
Long before a single brick was laid , our agronomy
teams were in the f ields , working side by side with
developing farmers to build skills and improve
yields . By the time the malthouse opens , it will
mark almost 10 years of steady , hands - on support
preparing them with the knowledge and capacity
to grow barley that can stand up to commercial
demand and meet our quality and sustainability
standards .
This long - term commitment creates real opportunity
for farmers while strengthening the resilience of
our barley supply . Building a strong , inclusive and
locally rooted sector requires sustained investment ,
consistent support and long - term partnerships . That
is where our focus lies : investing early , staying
engaged and building the foundations for
sustained success across the value chain .
SOUTH AFRICA ’ S
NEW MALTHOUSE
Without Soufflet Malt , I wouldn ’ t be where I am
today . Access to finance is one of the biggest
challenges for emerging farmers , and their
support has gone far beyond building financial
capacity . From technical guidance and soil
analysis to advice on irrigation and nitrogen
management , they ’ ve helped me meet the
quality standards required for malting barley .
With that support , I ’ ve been able to move to the
next level .
